Service Description

Achieving an optimal esthetic outcome in the complex patient, is one of the most demanding tasks a dentist must undertake. These patients often require substantial dental treatment to correct specific esthetic and functional discrepancies resulting from caries or periodontal disease, missing or impacted teeth, injured or avulsed incisors, severe wear, alveolar bone defects, failed treatment, and/or various other esthetic concerns. Therefore, planning treatment is difficult and requires a creative, yet collaborative, coordination of care by the interdisciplinary team to satisfy the objectives of both the patient and the team. This lecture will illustrate the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between the restorative dentist, orthodontist, and periodontist. It is designed to provide a systematic approach to diagnosing and treatment planning multiple dental dilemmas that are encountered in practice every day, while providing the tools and techniques needed to complete treatment. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of communication and proper treatment planning when treating these challenging patients. - Learning Objectives: Recognize proper communication skills when managing patients utilizing an interdisciplinary approach Understand the value of interdisciplinary collaboration when treating the complex dental patient
